Mägo de Oz - Gaia III: Atlantia (2010) (v0 mp3)

Genre: Epic Symphonic Folk Power Metal / Folk Rock
Quality: mp3 @ v0 (224kbps VBR)
About: While not quite up to par with their epic masterpiece "Gaia II: La Voz Dormida" this is an amazing album. This album quite simply has everything, while still feeling like a unified album. There are somber and slow parts, there are epic power metal songs with flutes in the background, synthesizer solos, there are Folk Rock songs. The song that particularly stood out for me though was "El Violín Del Diablo" featuring Patricia Tapia (Nexx, KHY) on vocals. It's a haunting song, much different from their usual happy partying and dancing style.

Here's a videoclip of their single illustrating that haunting feeling a couple songs have... but then they say screw it and start drinking and partying again XD.

9.5/10

Pagan Reign - Discography (with correct English tags)

Genre: Pagan Folk Black Metal
About: Pagan Reign (Rus) is proof that good music is made in russia. This is just enthralling pagan metal. Similar to most other pagan metal, Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, etc, but with a unique touch. The first album sounds rather demo-ey and crude (though with good recording), but by the later albums they found a really great atmosphere for themselves... then broke up D:< ... Anyway, If you get this anywhere else it'll probably be weird non-existant characters like "Đŕäĺăŕńň" or Russian, so enjoy :)... With the exception of the EP is in Russian, I can't find the translations.

Mägo de Oz - La Ciudad De Los Árboles (2007)

Genre: Folk Rock, Power Metal, Folk Metal
About: Best folk/power metal band. But this is somewhat of a departure for them because it's primarily a Folk Rock album. But it still carries the same happy spirit as their others. I think i read this album was born out of songs that didn't make it onto Gaia II.

Revolution Renaissance - Age Of Aquarius (2009) (Full Album)

Genre: power metal, melodic metal, symphonic metal, heavy metal, track 9: Folk Metal, Pagan Metal
About: The band line up alone should be enough to make you want this album:

Gus Monsanto - Vocals (Takara, Adagio (Fra), Overdose (Bra), Astra (Bra), Skyrion (Guest))
Timo Tolkki - Guitar (Stratovarius)
Justin Biggs - Bass (Descend (Swe), Dying Daylight)
Mike Khalilov - Keyboards (Empyreon, Forevers Edge)
Bruno Agra - Drums (Aquaria, Uirapuru)

But if not, just think of Stratovarius but with a more full, enveloping sound. This is a great debut album with this line-up. (Plus infinitely times better than that Saana crap. If you don't know what I'm referring to don't even look it up.) But the real gem of this album is the last track, "Into the Future", an uplifting melodic-folk-pagan masterpiece.

Sorry for the duplicate track, I may fix it later

Also...There seems to be multiple track listings, and since their official site does not have it, I'm using the most widespread one. Guessing metal-archives.com is wrong.

1. Age of Aquarius
2. Sins of My Beloved
3. Ixion’s Wheel
4. Behind The Mask
5. Ghost of Fallen Grace
6. Heart of All
7. So She Wears Black
8. Kyrie Eleison
9. Into The Future

Mägo de Oz - Barakaldo D.F. (2008) (Live Concert Audio)

Genre: Folk Metal, Power Metal, Heavy Metal
About: This live album has many of my favorite songs from them starting off with the explosive "La Voz Dormida". The band sounds as tight as ever. This also features the melodic rock band "Nexx" former singer, Patricia Tapia, on backing vocals. Plus a power metal version of a Mozart Composition, which is quite amazing.

This concert was recorded sometime between the 2005 album "Gaia II: La Voz Dormida" and their 2007 album "La Ciudad De Los Árboles" so that is why I have it tagged as 2007. A band with so many albums as Mago De Oz it is easier in my opinion to add a date before the album names.

Trollfest - Villanden (2009)

Genre: Folk Metal, Viking Metal, Black Metal, "Troll Metal", Beardcore (click at bottom if you don't know what that is :P)
About: This group was clearly inspired by other folk bands like Korpiklaani or Finntroll, but they have a very unique edge to them. For example, in the title track, some of the lyrics are: "Quack quack, quack quack!" Very unique and fun band if youre into these genres. They are the first metal band I've ever heard to use a trumpet. Also, it is good music to drink to.

Moonsorrow - Tulimyrsky EP (2008)

Genre: folk metal, viking metal, pagan metal, black metal
About: Quite possibly the most epic EP of all time. Starts off with the epic and varied self-titled song, weighing in at almost 30 minutes, then two re-recordings of old songs, and two covers, For Whom the Bell Tolls (Metallica cover), Back to North (Merciless cover).

This EP sees a set of visitors in form of actor Turkka Mastomäki, Olav Eira
(Áigi), Tomi Koivusaari (Amorphis), Oppu Laine (Mannhai) and Janne Perttilä
(Rytmihäiriö/Moonsorrow), all of whom contributed vocals.

From Finland, of course.

LINK REMOVED DUE TO COMPLAINT (This is why I mostly post underground stuff and my blog has so few followers) I have my own views about music sharing... I will leave it for another day. In essence, I would never be a fan of an awesome band such as Moonsorrow if it wasn't for it. If i really feel an artist deserved my hard earned money, I will do so. (Such as, i have purchased every Metallica and Rhapsody of Fire album on CD) If not, i should at least be able to hear it! Eh... not quite what i wanted to say but oh well.

However, you should definitely check this album out elsewhere.

Drudkh - Anti-Urban (CORRECT Vinyl Rip!!!)

Genre: Melodic Black Metal, elements of Folk Metal
About: This is a fantastic EP. Drudkh means "Tree" in romanized Sanskrit

I searched for hours to find this. The common version floating around is a rip at the WRONG SPEED causing the length to be 9 minutes for each track instead of 6. Furthermore if you play it with itunes it skips at 2:50 minutes causing it to move to the next track, then that one skips too at 2:50!

If you look on Metal Archives you will see the 6 minute tracks are the correct length. Please spread this around and tell the people with the wrong version to delete it. I'd say buy it, but you literally can't buy it since it was limited to 999 copies. Enjoy!

Thanks goes to "nidhogg" for this correct vinyl rip!

Year: 2007

(Edit 07/2009- there is a CD available with the bonus box of Microcosmos. The CD rip sounds almost exactly the same as this though.)

Týr - Land ( Tyr - Land )

Genre: Progressive Metal, Viking Metal, Folk Metal
About: I just saw them live last night, great show. Very unique band, give it a try if you're in for something new.
"Týr is a Viking Metal band from Faroe Islands. Its music can be described as a blend of viking, folk, and even hints of progressive metal. The band incorporates many folk elements and melodies in their songs, but the thing that makes Týr stand out is the musical inclusion of the island’s native folk structure. Týr’s songs include many rhythm changes and complex time signatures."

Retail album, not the promo with someone saying "You are listening to..." every few minutes!
